Bodega Colom was founded in 1831, probably by the Spanish Governor of Salta, Nicols Severo de Isasmendi y Echalar. In 1854, his daughter Ascensin, who married to Jos Benjamn Dvalos, brought the first French pre-phylloxera Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon vines to Colom. Grapes from three vineyards, planted in that year, are still used in the production of Colom Reserva wines. Colom Estate belonged to Isasmendi-Dvalos families along 170 years. Donald Hess acquired it in 2001.Donald and Ursula Hess first visited the Calchaqu Valleys in 1998. They were searching for the perfect terroir and the ideal weather to produce truly unique Argentinean wines. What they discovered here was beyond their expectations: they actually found their second home. The grandeur and natural beauty of Colom inspired and rejuvenated them. In 2001, they purchased Colom. Since then, they created the recent history of Colom, the richest in achievements and developments, both for Winery and the people of Colom.Their vision includes social responsibility towards the people of Colom. Hess family contributed to the building of the village community centre and the church, and to the betterment of the school and the community housing. Nowadays, Colom is the source of employment and income for most of the village inhabitants.Today, Colom Winery is a model winery producing quality premium wines in Argentina. Every year, it produces over half a million litres of wine and exports its wines to over 40 countries around the world.
