El Ron Prohibido Rum Habanero’ comes from the Spanish and means “the forbidden rum”. This comes from the fact that around the year 1700, Chinguirito rum (= distillate from sugar cane grown in Mexico, shipped to Spain and stored in sherry casks) became very popular and of course the traditional rum producers did not like that. Without further ado, the royal house banned Chinguirito (also called Habanero).
This rum was produced using the solera method and is aged for 15 years in oak barrels.
