The 2020 Checkerboard Aurora Vineyard is a wine with wonderful length and body. The vintage is intense and concentrated on the nose, with hints of ripe red fruit and plum. Expressions of Raspberry and sweet strawberries dance in harmony at the top of the glass. Sweet notes of black mission fig bounce in the glass over time while balanced with racy acidity. This wine is an instant crowd pleaser when opened in its youth but will benefit with time in cellar. The wine seems to develop softly with decanting and shows continuous pedigree from this vineyard site of volcanic soil and elevation. Multiple passes through the vineyard allowed the winemaking team at Checkerboard to be extremely meticulous and deliberate with harvest.
